What's New ABO

Do you find logging all of your CE courses into Learning Builder tedious? ABO now offers an option to upload your OE Tracker or other CE transcript log directly to Learning Builder for our staff to review and enter and approve. There is a nominal $20 annual fee for this service, which Diplomates may select on their Learning Plan page prior to uploading the documents. Diplomates may also continue to enter their own CE into Learning Builder if not interested in taking advantage of this new service.

Congratulations to ABO Diplomate and Board Director Dr. Mark Eltis on his election to serve a third term as President of the College of Optometrists of Ontario! Dr. Eltis also serves as the ABO Ambassador to Canada, is a fellow in the American Academy of Optometry, is a sought-after lecturer and author and a member of the Optometric Glaucoma Society.

More exciting news out of Canada! The College of Optometrists of Ontario officially approved The Additional Credential Policy, and the use of the following designation or the historical equivalents:
Diplomate, American Board of Optometry, or Dipl. ABO or Board Certified, American Board of Optometry
This is the first recognition of the board certification credential in Canada and ABO will be petitioning all other jurisdictions for recognition within the coming year.

Did you miss the February 5 webinar on Complications of Ocular and Systemic Pharmaceuticals? Greg Caldwell, OD presented a great lecture with record attendance! The recorded webinar is now available on our website and is COPE-accredited for 2 hours (after passing a 20-question quiz). Don’t miss it! And save the date now for our spring webinar, Clinical Quandaries, presented by Paul Ajamian, OD on Thursday May 8, from 8:00 – 10:00 EDT.

We’ve added two new self-guided learning modules to our Category 2 MOC activities! Looking for additional CE hours? Check out the two new modules added to our library of Self-guided Learning Modules. Case Study: Management of Granular Corneal Dystrophy and Case Study: Ocular Adverse Effects of Tivdek Therapy. Both modules are based on the winning cases from ABO’s 2024 Learning Through Clinical Care student case challenge. Each module is worth 1.5 hours of Category 2 MOC credit.

Does your employer require board certification? If you work for a private practice or healthcare organization that requires board certification for optometrists, we would like to hear from you. Please contact the ABO office at 314.983.4226 or [email protected] to take a brief survey and earn 2 Category 2 CE points.
