Additional CAQs, such as Retina or Medical Pediatrics, may be added in the future. ABO will closely monitor the CAQ pilot program to evaluate program successes, participation rates and interest.

CAQs are maintained through ABO’s maintenance of certification program. Diplomates who fail to meet CAQ requirements by the MOC deadline will lose the CAQ credential. If standard MOC requirements are met, the Diplomate will begin a new MOC cycle in the standard MOC path. If neither CAQ requirements nor standard MOC requirements were met, the Diplomate will lose the CAQ credential, and their board certification will lapse.

Diplomates may also voluntarily opt out of a CAQ path at the end of a completed MOC cycle. The request to opt out must be made by December 1st of year 4 in an MOC cycle.

No. The standard $275 MOC fee covers the CAQ as well.
