Diplomate Spotlight – Cory Seylar, OD

February 8, 2021

Life in the modern world can be busy and stressful. Trying to fit everything in often means squeezing those deadlines in without a minute to spare. But not for Dr. Cory Seylar. As one of our first Diplomates to begin the CAP program in 2019, he is also one of the first Diplomates to complete a CAP cycle, with plenty of time left to spare!

A graduate of The Ohio State University College of Optometry, Dr. Seylar began his career over 19 years ago serving as a clinical instructor to second year students. He completed a residency at the Chillicothe VAMC where he also managed the optometry student externship program. In 2003, Dr. Seylar joined Ludwick Eye Center, a medical and surgical ophthalmology practice specializing in cataracts, glaucoma and diabetic care and management. Primarily serving an older population, he finds it rewarding to support and care for seniors who are concerned with maintaining their independence and achieving their best possible visual outcomes.

An ABO Diplomate since 2011, Dr. Seylar believes board certification places optometry on a more equal field with other medical professions that have been using board certification to hold doctors to higher standards for decades. “It offers optometrists a standard of excellence to pursue, post academic study and residency,” said Dr. Seylar. “I appreciate that there is a goal to actively pursue to maintain credentials rather than just the CE requirement. Having a process with a measure of continued competence keeps my knowledge and skills at a high level.”

In addition to serving his patients at Ludwick Eye Center, Dr. Seylar has also lectured on various topics including a grand rounds presentation on rare and unusual cases. Away from the office, he likes to spend quality time at the gym and places a strong value on health and fitness. A resident of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, he is also a big fan of the Baltimore Orioles and Star Wars.

We appreciate Dr. Seylar’s enthusiasm for board certification and his passion for providing high quality care to the patients he serves, and thank him for his dedication and service to the profession.
