News & Notes

NewsWe’ve added a new SAM! Idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) is a relatively uncommon disorder, but its incidence and prevalence are rising in the US and other parts of the world where obesity is epidemic. Optometrists are often the first health care professionals to see patients with IIH, and may play a crucial role in the initial diagnosis and the ongoing management of this chronic condition. This self-assessment module provides diplomates with the opportunity to evaluate their knowledge of IIH – its signs and symptoms, associated risk factors and epidemiology, and treatment and management – and the role of optometrists in co-managing these patients.

Check Your Vital Information to Make Sure it is Current. If your information in the Learning Builder system is not current, you may be missing out on some important updates. Are you getting our emails? Do we have your correct state of licensure for reporting purposes? Do we have your correct NPI number for listing your board certification on PhysicianCompare and Healthgrades? Take a minute to log in to your account and check to see if your information is complete and accurate. If you need to edit anything, simply click on “Edit Role” under Member Details.

Did you know that when entering CE you can enter it in groups? There is no need to list each individual class attended if you are attending multiple classes at one event. For example, if you attended Optometry’s Meeting in Boston, simply enter the event name “OM 2016,” the sponsor “AOA,” the date of the event “June 30, 2016” and the total number of hours earned “26.” Simple and quick! Just be sure to save the actual class information somewhere (such as OE Tracker or a paper certificate) in case you are selected as one of the 5% per year that we must audit to meet our certification requirements.

Congratulations to Diplomate Andrea P. Thau on her inauguration as president of the American Optometric Association. Dr. Thau was sworn into office on Saturday July 2nd during the 119th Annual AOA Congress at Optometry’s Meeting in Boston, Massachusetts.

Congratulations to Dr. Dayna Helvick! Dr. Helvick visited our booth at Optometry’s Meeting and was the winner of our fitbit giveaway!
