What's New ABO

Another successful webinar in the books!  On July 22, Dr. Kendall Krug presented Low Vision in the Primary Care Practice which is now available at www.americanboardofoptometry.org. Watching the recorded version of the webinar and successfully completing the 20-question quiz will also earn you 2 COPE-approved CE credits. Our next webinar, How to Thrive in a Medical Optometric Practice will be presented by Dr. Craig Hyre on Tuesday, November 17th.  Registration information will be sent out in early November.

CE Modifications due to COVID-19. Please check with your state board to see what accommodations have been made for meeting CE requirements during COVID-19. Many boards have increased the number of hours allowed for online CE. ABO offers 8 hours of online CE annually through our webinar series. We currently have 7 recorded webinars available at www.americanboardofoptometry.org. Each webinar, after passing a 20-question quiz, is worth 2 hours of COPE CE.

Congratulations to William T. Reynolds, OD on his appointment as President of the AOA Board of Trustees. Dr. Reynolds has been a Diplomate since 2012 and was among the first group of board certified optometrists.Congratulations also to Robert C. Layman, OD who was appointed President-elect and James DeVleming, OD appointed Vice President. Both have been Diplomates with ABO since 2013.

Our Summer 2020 exam has been extended! If you have a colleague or know a resident that is considering taking the 2020 summer exam, please remind them that the exam period has been extended to August 31st due to COVID-19 closures earlier this spring/summer.

Academy 2020 in Nashville, Tennessee. As of press time, Academy 2020 is still scheduled to take place during October 7th through October 10th in Nashville. ABO will be there in booth 1133 to answer all your board certification and maintenance of certification questions.  Hope to see you there!
