What's New ABO
A newspaper on a wooden desk – Whats new

Thanks to Dr. Erich Hinel for a great webinar presented February 5th on Intraocular Inflammation! We had almost 400 participants register for the session. If you could not make the live webinar, it will be available on our website at www.staging.abo.flywheelsites.com beginning February 17th. Watching the recorded version of the webinar and successfully completing the 20-question quiz will also earn you 2 COPE-approved CE credits. ABO’s quarterly webinar series has been a big hit and is a free benefit offered to all Diplomates and Candidates. Our next webinar, All You Need to Know About Practice Guidelines, will be presented by Dr. Kristen Thelen on Monday, April 27th. Registration information for the webinar will be sent out in early April.

Check out our Diplomates featured on the cover of AOA Focus this month! Dr. Diane Adamczyk is featured for her work as the EBO committee chair in publishing AOA’s Evidence-Based Clinical Practice Guideline: Eye Care of the Patient with Diabetes Mellitus. Dr. William Reynolds, AOA President-Elect, encourages advocacy for scope expansion at the state government level and Dr. Barbara Horn discusses AOA’s plans for a national public awareness campaign to advance patient access as well as the profession.

ABO Diplomate Dr. Zanna Krouch is also featured in this edition of AOA Focus, as the 2019 Optometric Educator of the Year. Dr. Krouch participates in a Q&A, discussing her role as an educator, her practice in specialty contact lenses and her work at UHCO.

Be on the lookout for 2 surveys headed your way soon! The first one will be sent to all Diplomates who participated in the first year of CAP (2019). This short survey is important to guide us as we continue to refine CAP to best meet our Diplomate’s needs. So, if you loved something, hated something, or just have an opinion to share, please complete the survey. You were the first group to take the CAP assessments and can help determine what future assessments may look like! Our second survey will be sent this spring and focuses on Job Task Analysis (JTA), which is required every 5 years to maintain ABO’s accreditation. This survey is a little longer but is used to shape the content of future ABO exams. We appeal to you to complete this survey and will be offering a small incentive for doing so!

Attending SECO in Atlanta? ABO will be there! Stop by booth 529 to ask a question, pay your MOC fee, inquire about the new CAP program or just say hi. SECO offers a vast array of CE options and great social and networking opportunities. Hope to see you there!
