New Learning Builder Features and Modules

January 31, 2022

Diplomates routinely tell us that the easier our Learning Builder portal and website are to use, the easier it is for them to keep current, engage in learning modules and find needed information. With this in mind, we are pleased to share with you several new enhancements and learning tools.

ABO Certificates – Diplomates may now print current certificates directly from Learning Builder. Certificates will reflect initial certification date and current certification end date. Simply log in to Learning Builder and click My Account in the top right navigation bar. Then click on Download Certificate under Account Details. You may then download or print the PDF certificate. For Diplomates wanting a higher quality wall certificate, you may still request one by emailing [email protected]. However, certificate printing is only done twice per year, in May and October.

Request for Retired Status – Diplomates planning for retirement may now access a form to request their status be updated to Retired in Good Standing. The form is available by emailing a request to [email protected], or on our website at www.americanboardofoptometry.org by logging in and clicking on Resources from the Dashboard. Forms should be completed and returned to ABO within 30 days of your retirement. Retired status is for Diplomates who have completely retired and are no longer actively engaged in seeing patients. Diplomates granted Retired status will continue to receive the quarterly On Board newsletter, important updates and announcements, and will continue to have access to webinars and all reference materials though their Dashboard. MOC participation and annual fees are not required for Retired Diplomates. Please do not email forms to ABO in advance of retirement as we cannot pre-date a status within Learning Builder.

Credential Verifications – ABO is pleased to announce that our credential verification process has been fully automated. Employers, healthcare organizations and third-party insurers can now directly credential Diplomates from our website. ABO receives several hundred credentialing requests per month and the time to process each request has gone from several days to immediate. This service ensures our Diplomates’ board certification statuses are reported in a timely and accurate manner to all parties requesting a credential verification.

New SAM Available – A new self-assessment module (SAM) has been added to our library! Retinal OCT provides Diplomates an opportunity to assess their knowledge of OCT: identifying normal retinal anatomy, interpreting pathology as seen on OCT, and correlating OCT images with clinical findings. Through case presentations, Diplomates are afforded the opportunity to apply their knowledge of OCT to clinical conditions and review therapeutic options.

Updated Reference Materials – The References section of your Dashboard at www.americanboardofoptometry.org, has been updated to include a comprehensive list of all current and previous reference materials. Here you will find all CAP reference materials, SAM references and any presentations or slide decks associated with webinars. We hope Diplomates will access this reference section to review material from past learning modules when needed.
