By the Numbers: Cataracts, Refractive Surgery & Glaucoma CAP Assessment

Final results are now available for the summer CAP assessment. ABO Diplomates who took the assessment may be curious about their performance in comparison to their colleagues. Others may be interested in survey responses showing the impact of the readings and preparation for the assessment

Please note that we’re unable to provide direct answers to specific questions as some Diplomates will be retaking the assessment in their 4th year.

If there is specific information that you’d like to see in future CAP summaries that we haven’t provided here, please let us know.

Cataracts, Refractive Surgery and Glaucoma CAP Assessment

Dates available: May 15, 2024 through August 31, 2024

Overall Performance

Pass/fail cut point: 80% (20/25 questions)

Passing rate: 99.5%

Average score: 93.2% (23.3/25 questions correct)

 Performance by Question   

Myopic refractive surgery article (Questions 1-4):  Average percentage correct: 98.5%

6-year LiGHT trial article (Questions 5-8):  Average percentage correct: 97.0%

Glaucoma medications and OSD article (Questions 9-12):  Average percentage correct: 92.0%

Fundamental knowledge (Questions 13-25):  Average percentage correct: 90.8%

Easiest question: 10 questions scored 99% correct

Most difficult question (62% correct): Question 24 (fundamental knowledge question about toxic anterior segment syndrome).  Note: This question had the highest point biserial value on the assessment, indicating that it discriminated well.
