A Word from Our Chair

As our annual meeting approaches next month, we’re excited to look ahead and focus on ABO’s successes and ways we’re continuing to connect with colleagues across the profession.
We recently hosted a 2-hour, COPE-accredited webinar on dry eye disease (DED), No Tears Left to Cry: Restoring the Ocular Surface presented by Laura Goldberg, OD. On May 12th, we will host a special webinar event that will dive deeper into DED through a collaboration with Harrow, Inc. The webinar, Shifting the Paradigm with VEVYE®, will be presented by Steven Sorkin, OD from 7:00 – 8:00 pm CT. Both webinars are a great setup for the Anterior Segment II CAP assessment, which opens on May 15th.
Focusing on collaborative opportunities like these as well as working with organizations like AFOS and OVDRA, ABO hopes to promote common goals through a shared commitment to lifelong learning and better patient care. We’re also continuing to spend time with students, faculty and residents through school visits and working more closely with the American Optometric Association—especially as we plan for our upcoming annual meeting. These efforts are all about making it easier to stay engaged, keep learning, and stay connected.
Whether it’s joining a webinar, chatting with students about board certification, or collaborating with partners across optometry, every touchpoint helps strengthen our community.
If you’ve been thinking about getting more involved, whether that’s attending a webinar, volunteering in a small way, or encouraging a colleague or student to start the board certification process—this is a great time to jump in. The more we support each other and share the value of board certification, the stronger our profession becomes.
Sincerely,
Matthew Gerstberger, OD
